|The Election Commission will hold a virtual review meeting with the Union Health Secretary, Chief Secretaries, and Health Secretaries of five poll-bound states today. The meeting will take stock of the COVID Safety measures during the upcoming assembly elections.
The meeting assumes significance in the wake of the ban announced by Election Commission on physical rallies and roadshows till today, amidst the rise in Covid-19 cases. While announcing the dates for elections in five states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab, and Manipur, the poll panel had announced a ban on physical rallies, road, and bike shows, and similar campaigning events till 15th January. Subsequently, it extended the ban till 22nd of January. However, the political parties were allowed to hold indoor meetings of a maximum 300 people or 5 percent of the capacity of the hall, or the prescribed limit set by State Disaster Management Authorities. Counting of votes will take place on 10th of March.
