Finance Ministry releases 10th installment of revenue deficit grant to states

The Finance Ministry on Thursday, January 6, 2021, released a total monthly revenue deficit grant of Rs 9,871 crore to 17 states. An amount of Rs 98,710 crore has been released so far to 17 states as a post-devolution revenue deficit grant in the current financial year.

“The Department of Expenditure today released monthly Post Devolution Revenue Deficit (PDRD) grant of Rs 9,871 crore to 17 states. This was the 10th installment of PDRD grant released to the states,” the ministry said in a statement.

States that received grant

The states which have received this grant include Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Punjab, Tripura, Uttarakhand and West Bengal.

Grants released to bridge the gap in revenue accounts of states

Grants are released in monthly installments as per the recommendations of the 15th Finance Commission to bridge the gap in revenue accounts of states post-devolution. The commission has recommended this grant to 17 states during 2021-22.

Eligibility of the states to receive the grant

The eligibility of the states to receive this grant and the quantum of the grant was determined by the commission on the basis of the difference between the assessment of revenue and expenditure of the state, taking into account the devolution set for 2021-22.

“The 15th Finance Commission has recommended a PDRD grant of Rs 1,18,452 crore to 17 states for the financial year 2021-22. Out of this, an amount of Rs 98,710 crore (83.33 per cent) has been released so far,” the statement said added.
