Indian Navy Day 2021: Remembering the Success of ‘Operation Trident’

Their commitment, energy, and dedication is an inspiration to all; they fearlessly protect our maritime frontiers, secure our trade routes & provide humanitarian assistance in times of need. Setting an example of exemplary valour & courage, they are called the Indian Navy and today, i.e 4th December is witnessed as the Indian Navy Day to commemorate the success and launch of ‘Operation Trident’against Pakistan during the Indo-Pak WAR in 1971. The audacious offensive of the Indian Army during the 1971 War caused heavy damage to Pakistan’s vessels and it was during this operation that an anti-ship missile was used for the first time.

To mark the occasion, President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior leaders extended greetings and best wishes to naval personnel and their families, as well as paid homage to the Bravehearts.

Sharing a clipping from the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ episode, Prime Minister Narendra Modi says that our navy is widely respected for its professionalism and outstanding courage. Our navy personnel have always been at the forefront of mitigating crisis situations like natural disasters.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh took to Twitter to share glimpses of the Indian Navy’s combat capabilities, cohesive nature and outstanding contribution in building the defence of the nation.

Apart from the senior leaders, the other wings of the arm forces, General MM Naravane Chief Of Army Staff and All Ranks Indian Army; Director General & all Ranks of Border Security Forces along with Indian Air Force extends warm wishes & greetings to all personnel of Indian Navy on the occasion of Navy Day.

To mark the occasion, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar, in a video, said, “We reaffirm Indian Navy’s commitment to preserving, protect & promote India’s Maritime Interest, pay homage to sacrifices of our Bravehearts & express gratitude to our veterans.”

Every year December 4 is celebrated to acknowledge the role and achievements of the Indian Navy, the day holds its history and significance to the launch of Operation Trident during the Indo-Pak war 1971. With the primary objective to safeguard the nation’s maritime borders, and in conjunction with other Armed Forces of the union, the Indian Navy has been involved in innumerable humanitarian missions, disaster relief initiatives, and bilateral relations with other nations. The Indian Navy has been defending the nation’s sovereignty, uncovering threats, aiding partners, securing the world’s busiest trade routes and guarding India’s 7,500 Kilometers long undulating coastline.
