Omicron Variant: INSACOG calls for booster dose to people above 40, considers those at high risk as priority

Indian Sars-Cov2 Genomics Sequencing Consortium INSACOG has stressed upon vaccination of all remaining unvaccinated at-risk people and consideration of a booster dose for those 40 years of age and over.

In its weekly bulletin, INSACOG said, priority may be given to those who are at high risk or high exposure for the booster shot as they have a low level of antibodies.

The bulletin said, genomic surveillance will be critical for early detection of the presence of Covid-19 variants, to enable necessary public health measures. It said, monitoring travel to and from the known affected areas and contact tracing of COVID-19 cases with an epidemiological link to the affected areas has been implemented along with increased testing across the country.
