The Regional Met Department has predicted heavy rainfall in nine Tamil Nadu districts including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Ranipet today owing to the low pressure area over South east Bay of Bengal. The low pressure which continues to persist in the same place is likely to move westwards and reach west Central and adjoining South west Bay of Bengal bringing heavy rains in South Andhra and North Tamilnadu coasts.

As the Red alert has been issued to Chennai, Tiruvallur Kanchipuram and Ranipet districts, heavy rainfall has begun in many areas. The nowcast warning of the Met Department has announced that heavy rains will continue till evening. And again restart later in the evening and continue till tomorrow morning in a constant manner.  Fishing activity has been suspended in coastal districts.  Alert has been issued to all the District Administrations to monitor and prevent any eventuality.
