Kerala is under high alert as heavy rain continues to lash across the Southern and central parts of the state. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan urged the public to be extra cautious for the coming 24 hours as Met Department forecasts heavy rains across the state on account of the depression formed in Arabian Sea. Red alert is issued in five districts, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta, Thrissur and Idukki. Low-lying areas are flooded in the Southern and Central Kerala. Electricity and Traffic is badly hit in many regions Shutters of many dams are opened. Landslides had been reported in high range areas. High alert is issued in landslide and sea erosion prone regions. Authorities had directed public to avoid travel in hilly areas. Six teams of National Disaster Response force is in the State. Twenty four-hour Control Room and relief camps are opened in all affected regions.
