Union Home Amit Shah visits cellular jail in Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah visited the National Memorial Cellular Jail and laid a wreath at the Martyrs’ Column in Port Blair today. He also visited the cell of Veer Savarkar and paid homage. The Home Minister attended the cultural programme as part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ in Cellular Jail.
Addressing the event, the Home Minister said that it is a matter of pride for me to come to this holy place. Remembering freedom fighters Veer Savarkar and Sachin Sanyal, he exclaimed that their sacrifice inspired many youths to serve for the country.
Mr Shah said, freedom fighters have suffered highly at cellular jail but their spirits remained undaunted. It is the land of supreme sacrifices. The Government gave away the status ”the most sacred place ”Trithsthal” of the Indian Sub-Continent ” to Cellular Jail. The Home Minister unveiled the plaque at the front gate Cellular Jail complex.
Mr Shah reached Port Blair today on a three-day visit to Andaman Nicobar Islands.
Andaman Nicobar is a place where Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose hoisted tricolour for the first time in 1943 and declared it free from British Rule. Mr Shah appealed to people to visit Cellular Jail and Pay homage to freedom fighters.
Emphasising on the purpose of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Home Minister made an appeal to youths of the country that it is time to take commitment for making India a great nation.
Highlighting the achievements of Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the implementation of government schemes, he stressed upon that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi work culture has been changed. He said, now, speedy implementation of government projects are being done across the country.
He stated that the Under Sea Cable Project has solved the connectivity problem in the islands. The project which started in 2018, was inaugurated in August last year by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Lt. Governor Admiral D K Joshi in his address mentioned that due to the efforts of PMO and Home Ministry the Under Sea Cable Project has been implemented in a short time.
Mr Shah will undertake an aerial survey of various developmental projects including Shaheed Dweep eco-tourism project and Swaraj Dweep Water Aerodrome tomorrow.   Thereafter, he will visit Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island and attend a public function wherein he will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for various developmental projects.
