External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar is in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan to participate in a two-day 6th Ministerial meeting of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) 2021, which begins today. Kazakhstan is the current Chair and Initiator of the CICA Forum.
Established in 1999, CICA is a forum aimed at enhancing cooperation through elaborating multilateral approaches towards promoting peace, security and stability in Asia. It currently has 27 member states and 9 observer states and 5 observer organisations India is a member of CICA since its inception in 1999 and has been actively participating in various activities conducted under the aegis of CICA. Dr. Jaishankar is also expected to hold bilateral talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan and call on the Kazakh leadership. The Minister began his Kazakhstan visit with a bilateral meeting with Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov.
External Affairs Minister yesterday met his Turkmenistan counterpart Rashid Meredov and discussed bilateral and regional cooperation. In a Twitter, Jaishankar said he had cordial meeting with Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov of Turkmenistan and discussed issues relating bilateral and regional cooperation. They exchanged views on neighbourhood developments and agreed to remain in close touch with each other.
