At the stock markets, rising for the third straight session, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange gained 77 points, or 0.1 percent, to end at an all-time high of 60,136, today. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange rose 51 points, or 0.3 percent, to a record closing high of 17,946. In the broader market, the BSE Midcap index and the Smallcap index added about 0.6 percent, each.
Sectorally on the BSE, the utility index was the leading gainer, shooting up 2.8 percent. The Power index jumped 2.6 percent; the Auto index surged 2.5 percent; the Metal index climbed 1.8 percent; the Realty index advanced 1.7 percent; the Bankex added 1.5 percent; the Consumer Discretionary index rose 1.3 percent; the Finance and the Industrials index gained 1.2 percent, each; the FMCG index moved up 0.8 percent; the Consumer Durables and the Material index added 0.7 percent, each and the Oil & Gas index gained 0.6 percent. Among the declining indices, the IT index slumped 2.9 percent; the Tech index dropped 2.7 percent and the Telecom index fell 0.8 percent.
