Photo Feature: Night sky details & salient astronomical events for October 2021

As The Celestial Saga unfolds for the Month of October 2021, read details about the Night sky and the salient astronomical events in the Photo feature “THE NIGHT SKY, OCTOBER 2021”.

The Night Sky gazers can focus their sight as per the night sky chart which shows the evening sky as seen from latitudes 0 to 40 degrees North. Base line as projected by the inner circle projects the horizon as seen from latitude 22.5 degrees North. The elongated Chart details the night sky star position for complete India. The chart is meant to be held overhead with cardinal points aligned with the observers site.

The salient dates for the visibility of the planets and for the Moon, the natural Satellite of Earth are :
– New Moon occurs on 6th at h.16–35 I.S.T
– Full Moon occurs on 20th at h.20–27 I.S.T
– First Quarter occurs on 13th at h.8–55 I.S.T
– Last Quarter occurs on 29th at h.1–35 I.S.T

PLANET VISIBILITY

Mercury visible 1 hour before sunrise from 14th October 2021. It Moves from Libra (Tula) to Virgo (Kanya) on 2nd of the month with retrograde motion with respect to Earth.

Venus sets about 2½ hours to 3 hours after sunset throughout the month. It Moves from Libra (Tula)  to Scorpion (Vrischika) on   2ndand moves from Scorpion (Vrischika) to Sagittarius (Dhanus)  on 30th.

Mars is too close to our nearest star, the Sun to be visible throughout the month. It moves from Libra (Tula)  to Scorpion (Vrischika) on   2ndand moves from Scorpion (Vrischika) to Sagittarius (Dhanus)  on the 30th.

Fifth from the Sun and the largest planet of the solar system, Jupiter sets after midnight throughout the month. The motion becomes direct relative to Earth from 18th October 2021. he planet remains in Capricornus (Makara) throughout the month.

Saturn the 6th from the Sun and the second largest planet of the Solar system sets about 1 hour to ½ hour after local midnight till the first quarter, about ½ hour after local midnight time to close to it during the second quarter, about 1½ hours to 1 hour after it upto third quarter and about 1 hour to ½ hour after it for the rest of the month. Saturn appears in Direct motion from Earth from 18th October 2021. It remains in constellation Capricornus (Makara) during the month of October.
