Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker Appavu says Centre should reconsider dumping nuclear waste in Koodankulam

Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker Appavu on Thursday said that the Union Government should reconsider dumping nuclear waste in Koodankulam.

Speaking to the media in Tirunelveli, he said that already two nuclear power plants have been functioning at Koodankulam and work for the other four nuclear plants are in full swing. He urged that in case of any eventuality, it would affect South Tamil Nadu and Kerala. He also said that a case has been pending at the Supreme Court with regard to the disposal of the nuclear waste.

Mr Appavu appealed that the Government should consider a desert region to dispose the waste so that it would not be a threat to the survival of people of southern districts.
