At the stock markets, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange lost 254, or 0.4 percent, to end at 59,413, today. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange fell 37 points, or 0.2 percent, to 17,711. The broader market outperformed the Sensex, with the BSE Midcap index rising 0.9 percent and the Smallcap index gaining 0.4 percent.
Among the sectoral indices, the Utilities index was the leading gainer, shooting up 3.9 percent. The Power index surged 3.5 percent; the Metal index jumped 2.5 percent; the Realty index advanced 1.2 percent; the Basic Material index climbed 0.9 percent and the Healthcare and the Oil & Gas index rose 0.8 percent, each. Among declining indices, the Finance index fell 0.7 percent; the FMCG index drops 0.6 percent; and the Capital Goods and the Bankex slipped 0.5 percent, each.
