2 crore countrymen availed the facility of free treatment under Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY

Strengthening health facilities in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission through a video conference today.

Speaking on the occasion, PM Modi said that. “Today we are launching a mission that has the potential of bringing a revolutionary change in India’s health facilities.”

He underlined the fact that with 130 crore Aadhaar numbers, 118 crore mobile subscribers, about 80 crore internet users, about 43 crore Jan Dhan bank accounts, there is no such big connected infrastructure anywhere in the world.

Technology deployed in governance reforms

This digital infrastructure is bringing everything to the citizens in a timely and transparent manner, from ration to administration (Ration to Prashasan).“The way technology is being deployed in governance reforms today is unprecedented”, said the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister stated that the Arogya Setu app played a significant role in avoiding the spread of the corona infection. He praised Co-WIN for helping India set a record of around 90 crore vaccination doses administered , under the free vaccine campaign.

Continuing on the theme of the employment of technology in health, the Prime Minister stated that during the Corona period, there was an unprecedented expansion of telemedicine, with nearly 125 crores worth of remote consultations done through e-Sanjeevani. This facility is connecting thousands of countrymen living in far-flung parts of the country every day with doctors of big hospitals of cities while sitting at home, said the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister remarked that Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY has addressed a key headache in the lives of the poor. So far more than 2 crore countrymen have availed the facility of free treatment under this scheme, half of which are women.

He said, “these healthcare solutions are a big investment in the present and future of the country.”

Ayushman Bharat – Digital Mission, would now connect the digital health solutions of hospitals across the country. The PM said that the Mission would not only simplify hospital processes, but also make life easier for people. Every citizen will now receive a digital health ID, and their health records will be digitally protected.

The PM also discussed unprecedented reforms in health education and said a much larger number of doctors and medical manpower is being created in India now as compared to 7-8 years ago. In the country, a complete network of AIIMS and other health facilities are being developed, with plans to establish one medical college in each of the three Lok Sabha constituencies. He also mentioned the importance of developing health services in villages, stating that primary health centre networks and wellness centres are being built in the villages. Over 80 thousand such centres have already been operationalized, said the Prime Minister.

Noting that today’s event is being held on World Tourism Day, the Prime Minister stated that health and tourism are inextricably linked. When the health infrastructure is linked and improved, the tourism sector benefits as well.
