Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a bilateral meeting with US President Joe Biden at the White House in Washington DC in a shortwhile from now. This is going to be the first in-person meeting between the two leaders after Mr Biden took over as the US President on the 20th of January. Mr Biden will also host the first-ever in-person Quad Leaders’ Summit, which will be attended by Prime Minister Modi, Australian PM Scott Morrison and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga.

Q.1. Souvagya, it is going to be a big day with Prime Minister Modi meeting US President Biden first and then with the QUAD leaders. But, first your take on the PM-Biden meeting ?

Meanwhile Prime Minister has reached White house for talks.
Prime Minister Modi will conclude his US visit tomorrow with an address at the United Nations General Assembly focusing on the pressing global challenges including the COVID-19 pandemic, the need to combat terrorism, climate change and other important issues.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi and US Vice President Kamala Harris met in Washington DC last night. The two leaders expressed happiness at their first in-person meeting. Mr. Modi and Kamala Harris discussed the COVID-19 situation and the ongoing efforts to contain the pandemic. The Prime Minister lauded the US support at that time. The US Vice President appreciated India’s vaccination drive and how it has now moved to export the vaccines for humanity.
Both leaders agreed that India-US and QUAD need to strengthen the supply chains and partner in new technologies. Regional and global issues including developments in Afghanistan and the quest for an open, free and inclusive Indo-Pacific region figured prominently in the talks.
India and Japan have reaffirmed their commitment to advancing efforts to facilitate the smooth and timely implementation of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) project. Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed MAHSR with his Japanese counterpart Yoshihide Suga, on the sidelines of the Quad Leaders’ Summit. The two Prime Ministers expressed happiness at their first in-person meeting. Mr Modi congratulated Prime Minister Suga for successfully hosting the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympic Games in the midst of a global pandemic. The two Prime Ministers reviewed the multi-faceted relationship between the two countries and exchanged views on recent global and regional developments, including in Afghanistan. They reaffirmed their commitment towards a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region. They agreed to enhance bilateral security and defence cooperation, including in the area of defence equipment and technologies.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on the sidelines of the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Washington DC. This was the first in-person meeting between the two leaders in the post-pandemic period.
During the meeting, the two Prime Ministers discussed a broad range of issues of bilateral, regional and global importance. They noted with satisfaction the regular high-level engagements between the two countries, including the recently held first India-Australia Foreign and Defence Ministers’ 22 Dialogue.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that despite challenges of Covid-19 pandemic, Indian economy is on a sustained path of revival. Addressing a press conference at the Haryana BJP office in Chandigarh today, she cited the rise in GST collections and direct taxes to support her assertion.
Ms Sitharaman further said that the confidence in the Indian stock market is growing as retail and small investors are keenly investing money in the share market. She said that the half-yearly target has already been achieved in direct taxes and GST collections on an average per month is somewhere in the range of 1.11 lakh crore and 1.12 lakh crore rupees. She further said that the startups are being provided loans through banks and even street vendors selling fruits and vegetables are being given financial aid Pradhanmantri Swainidhi Yojana.
The Finance Minister said that as per spirit of the BJP, the government is reaching out to all believing in the philosophy of Sabka saath Sabka Vikas and Sabka Vishwas.
Ms Sitharaman was in Panchkula to take part in party events in Haryana.
The Centre has notified Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) for automobile and auto components. The scheme will be implemented over a period of five years starting from financial year 2022 – 2023. It is estimated that the scheme will help create additional employment of over 7.5 lakh jobs in the auto sector. It will also attract fresh investments of over 42 thousand 500 crore rupees in five years.
The government has recently approved the PLI Scheme for automobile and auto component industry. The incentive structure will encourage industry to make fresh investments for indigenous global supply chain of advanced automotive technology products. This scheme will help increase India’s share in global automotive trade.
At the domestic stock markets, the Sensex hit 60,000-mark for the first time while Nifty ended at a fresh record high today; and the rupee shed 5 paise, against the dollar.
The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange rose 163 points, to end at a fresh record high of 60,048, today. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange gained 30 points, to another all time high of 17,853.
At the forex market, the rupee weakened 5 paise, to 73 rupees and 70 paise, against the dollar.
Gold declined 365 rupees, to 45,141 rupees per ten grams at Delhi’s bullion market.

Over 84 crore 15 lakh vaccine doses have been administered so far under the Nationwide Vaccination Drive. Over 72 lakh 20 thousand vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours.
A total of 31 thousand 382 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours. The recovery rate is currently at 97.78 per cent. Over 32,542 recoveries were recorded in the last 24 hours.
In Bihar, the first Phase of Panchayat Elections passed off peacefully. Around sixty percent voting was recorded in today’s poll. Polling was held in 170 Gram Panchayats spread over 10 districts including Gaya, Aurangabad and Munger today. No untoward incident has been reported from any part of the state.
For the first time, EVMs was used in Panchayat polls in the state. Electoral fortune of 15 thousand 388 candidates has been sealed in EVMs. Counting of votes will take place on 26th and 27th of September. Second phase of polling will be held on September 29.
Three persons were shot dead in a firing incident in a Delhi court today. According to Delhi Police, a noted gangster was killed in the exchange of fire. Police said, two assailants opened fire at the gangster in Rohini Court in North West Delhi. In a swift reaction, the Police neutralized the attackers. The incident took place when the gangster who was arrested on charges of running extortion racket was being produced in the court.
The Union Public Service Commission today announced the final result of Civil Services Examination, 2020. A total number of 761 candidates have been recommended for appointment. Shubham Kumar has topped the list of successful candidates. Jagrati Awasthi has rank 2 and Ankita Jain has got rank 3. Talking to AIR News, topper Shubham Kumar expressed happiness over the result.
President Ram Nath Kovind today conferred the National Service Scheme Awards for 2019-20 from the Rashtrapati Bhawan through virtual mode. Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur and Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Nisith Pramanik attended the ceremony from the Sushma Swaraj Bhawan in New Delhi.
On this occasion, Mr. Thakur said, youth is the future of the country. He said,
the National Service Scheme volunteers have worked wholeheartedly for community services during the COVID-19 pandemic. He added that activities of the National Service Scheme are helpful in nation building. He said, volunteers are continuously working on various community development projects which is helping the villagers.
Health Ministry today said that more than 84 crore 82 lakh 80 thousand vaccine doses have been administered in the country till now. The Ministry said, more than 64 lakh 58 thousand Vaccine Doses were administered today.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver a video address at the event Global Citizen Live tomorrow evening. Global Citizen is a global advocacy organization that is working to end extreme poverty. Global Citizen Live is a 24-hour event which will be held across 25th and 26th September and will involve live events in major cities including Mumbai, New York, Paris, Rio De Janeiro, Sydney, Los Angeles, Lagos and Seoul. The event will be broadcast in 120 countries and over multiple social media channels.

Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur inaugurated five days ‘First Himalayan Film Festival’ today in a star studded program at Sindhu Sanskriti Kendra, Leh in Ladakh. The festival is a part of the celebrations of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. The film festival will showcase talent across 12 Himalayan states and UTs.
‘Shershaah’, the biographical war movie based on ‘Param Vir Chakra’ awardee Captain Vikram Batra was screened in the opening ceremony. Anurag Thakur in his address said that cinema provides a platform to bring all the cultural diversities together.

Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri has said that the Centre is planning to double the production of liquid hydrocarbon and natural gas in North Eastern states. Addressing the newspersons Mr.Puri said that his Ministry has decided to increase the production of oil and natural gas from 9 MMT to 18 MMT in the North Eastern region. He added that one lakh crore rupees have been approved for this project and it is expected to be completed by 2025.
China and Taiwan have targeted each other in another war of words over their separate bids to join a trans-Pacific trade pact with Beijing opposing Taipei’s attempt to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). Beijing called on 11 members of the CPTPP to oppose the self-ruled island’s application, a move Taipei has called the act of an arch bully. 11 member countries in the CPTPP are in dilemma, as support for Taipei could affect their economic ties with Beijing, which also applied to join the pact last week.
