Asian markets trade mostly lower today

Asian markets traded mostly lower today, hurt by persistent uncertainty around the fate of debt-ridden China Evergrande, even as increased risk appetite drove US stocks higher.

So China’s Shanghai Composite index fell 0.8 percent; South Korea’s Kospi index shed 0.1 percent; Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index had dropped 1.3 percent and Singapore’s Straits Times index slipped 0.5 percent.

But Japan’s Nikkei-225 index climbed 2.1 percent.

In Europe, key indices, London’s FTSE-100 had shed 0.2 percent; France’s CAC-40 had slipped 0.7 percent and Germany’s DAX had dropped 0.6 percent, in intra-day trade.
