Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty50 ended on the green side of the market on Thursday. Buying interest was seen across all sectors. Bajaj Finserv was the top gainer among blue-chip stocks, surged 5.15 per cent. Larsen, HDFC, Axis Bank and SBI were among the other top Sensex gainers. While Dr Reddys Labs, ITC, Nestle and HUL were laggards.
Earlier in Asian Indices, Singapore’s Straits Times rose by 0.93 per cent and China’s Shanghai Composite increased by 0.38 per cent. Japan’s Nikkei 225 index declined by 0.67 per cent.
Reasons for this jump in the stock market are – In its policy statement, the US central bank said it could begin bond purchases as soon as November and that half of Fed officials were prepared to raise interest rates next year in response to inflation. The positive news on the Evergrande crisis also offset some of the uncertainty, boosting investor morale.
The BSE Sensex and Nifty50 increased by 1.63 and 1.57 per cent respectively. The Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange closed at 59,850 level while Nifty50 of the National Stock Exchange settled at the 17,822 mark. The Sensex gained 958 points to trade at 59,885 and the Nifty50 rose by 276 points to trade at 17,822.
In Nifty50 index shares, Bajaj Finserv was the biggest gainer, increased by 5.05 per cent. Tata Motors, Hindalco, Axis Bank, Larsen and Coal India were among the other gainers.
On the other hand, HDFC Life was the worst performer in the pack, down by 1.15 per cent. Dr Reddys Labs, Nestle, ITC, Tata Consumer Products, Britannia and JSW Steel were the other worst performers in the pack.
Small-cap and Mid-cap Indices
The Nifty Midcap-100 index rose 1.49 per cent and the Nifty Smallcap-100 index increased 0.78 per cent. In Nifty Midcap 100, Oberoi Realty gained 12.87 per cent, Godrej Properties rose 12.72 per cent, Indian Hotels, Prestige Estate and Dixon Technologies also surged, while Zee Entertainment, Endurance Technologies and Balakrishna Industries declined. In Nifty Smallcap-100, Welspun India gained 13.36 per cent. On the other hand, JK Lakshmi Cement fell 3.49 per cent, Quess Corp, Cyient and EID Parry declined.
In NSE sectoral indices, 19 out of 20 sectors surged. Nifty Realty was the top performer as it gained 8.66 per cent, Nifty Financial Service rose 2.28 per cent, followed by Nifty Pvt bank increased by 2.10 per cent. On the other hand, Nifty Media was the worst performer, down by 1.71 per cent.
