Idols constructed for Durga Puja vandalised in Kushtia town of Bangladesh

Miscreants vandalised several Durga idols being constructed for the upcoming Durga Puja in the Kushtia town of Bangladesh on Tuesday night. The temporary mandap where the Durga idol was being made is situated in the Aruapara area of Kushtia. Members of the local Puja committee discovered the vandalism when they came to the location on Wednesday morning.

On learning of the incident, police visited the location. The matter is being investigated by the police but the vandals have not yet been identified.

In another incident, a teenage baul singer was allegedly beaten up and his hair shaved for singing baul songs and lighting candles in the house in Shibganj Upazila of Bangladesh. A case was filed in the local police station after which three people were arrested including the teacher of a local high school.

The singer Mehedi wore white clothes and kept long hair as per the baul tradition. Some people mocked Mehedi for his dress on which he protested. Subsequently angered at the reaction of the baul singer, the accused allegedly went to his house and shaved off his head, reports the local media.

The police said that they are trying to arrest the other accused persons in the case.
