Sensex rises 514 points, Nifty ends at 17,562; Metal and IT top gainers

Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty50 ended on the green side of the market on Tuesday. Buying interest was seen in metal and IT stocks. Selling pressure was witnessed in auto shares. Bajaj Finance was the top gainer among blue-chip stocks, surged 4.94 per cent. IndusInd Bank, ITC, Bajaj Finserv, and Tata Steel were among the other top Sensex gainers. While Maruti Suzuki, Bajaj Auto, Nestle and HDFC Bank were laggards.

Earlier in Asian Indices, Singapore’s Straits Times rose by 0.71 per cent, Japan’s Nikkei 225 index declined by 2.17 per cent and China’s Shanghai Composite increased by 0.19 per cent.

Market Overview

The BSE Sensex and Nifty50 increased by 0.95 and 0.88 per cent, respectively. The Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange closed at 59,000 level while Nifty50 of the National Stock Exchange settled at the 17,562 mark. The Sensex gained 514 points to trade at 59,005 and the Nifty50 rose by 165 points to trade at 17,562.

Nifty50 Index

In Nifty50 index shares, JSW Steel was the biggest gainer, increased by 5.65 per cent. ONGC, Bajaj Finance, IndusInd Bank, Bajaj Finserv and ITC were among the other gainers.

On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki was the worst performer in the pack, down by 2.53 per cent. BPCL, Hero Motocorp, Bajaj Auto, Nestle, Power Grid Corp and HDFC Bank were the other worst performers in the pack.

Small-cap and Mid-cap Indices

The Nifty Midcap-100 index rose 0.64 per cent and the Nifty Smallcap-100 index declined 0.14 per cent. In Nifty Midcap 100, Oil India gained 7.04 per cent, Prestige Estate rose 5.64 per cent, Mindtree, SAIL and Varun beverages also surged, while CESC, Tata Elxsi and Indiabulls Hsg declined. In Nifty Smallcap-100, GNFC gained 7.81 per cent. On the other hand, Radico Khaitan fell 4.47 per cent, UTI AMC, APL Apollo and CAMS declined.

Sectoral Indices

In NSE sectoral indices, 17 out of 20 sectors surged. Nifty Realty was the top performer as it gained 3.57 per cent, Nifty Metal rose 2.55 per cent, followed by Nifty IT increased by 1.94 per cent. On the other hand, Nifty Auto was the worst performer, down by 0.46 per cent.
