India is bestowed with a lot of potential to produce different varieties of food products due to its various agro-climatic conditions. Therefore, the government has focussed on enriching the diet of the citizens.
During the G-20 Agriculture Ministers’ meeting, the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has emphasized re-introducing traditional food items in the diet of the people. These food items include millet, nutritious cereals, fruits, vegetables, fish, dairy and organic products.
He also informed that the production of these products has been phenomenal in India and India is becoming a destination country for healthy food items.
It is worth noting that the United Nations has accepted the proposal of the Government of India and declared the year 2023 as the International Year of Millets. It has been appealed to the nations to support the celebration of Millet Year to promote nutrition and sustainable agriculture.
