In the backdrop of fear of third wave of COVID-19 in Maharashtra, State Disease Surveillance Officer Dr. Pradip Awate has said that the current trend of Corona virus cases in the state does not indicate surge in cases after the conclusion of ongoing festival season. However, he said, it is difficult to come out with accurate prediction about the intensity of the third wave as the prevalence and spread of the virus depends on different factors.
While speaking to AIR News, Dr Pradip Awate has said that there is difference of opinion among experts about the third wave in the country. But, the current trend of COVID cases in Maharashtra does not indicate surge in fresh cases. He said, there are chances of rise in cases after festival season as the factors like migration, non- compliance of COVID-19 guidelines, effect of rainy season as well as the atmosphere in particular area affects the spread of the disease. But, nobody can accurately predict about the intensity of the spread of the disease. Dr Awate said that the surge can be avoided, if people continue to follow COVID Appropriate Behaviour by avoiding crowding, wearing masks and hand sanitisation.
