Gunfight started between militants and security forces in J&K’s Rajouri district

In Jammu and Kashmir, a gunfight started between militants and security forces in higher reaches of Behrote village in Thanna Mandi sub-district of Rajouri district today. Our Jammu Correspondent reports that the encounter broke out after a joint team of Police and Army launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the area following information about the suspected movement of terrorists from across the Line of Control (LoC) and having a specific input about the presence of some militants. The place is close to the Line of Control (LoC). As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight. The search operation was jointly launched by the police and Army in the early hours today. The gunfight was underway when reports last came in and more details are awaited.

The twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch in the Jammu region have witnessed a spurt in infiltration attempts since June this year, resulting in the killing of nine terrorists in separate encounters.
