Education an important sector for collaborative work between India and Bangladesh: Assam Governor Prof. Mukhi

Education is an important sector where India and Bangladesh can work more collaboratively.

The Governor of Assam Prof. Jagdish Mukhi requested the High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami to lay more emphasis on student exchange and cultural exchange programmes between the two countries. Governor also requested to focus on special digital connectivity and bandwidth facilities for North Eastern Indian states and link up with the Internet Gateway at Cox Bazar.

The Governor said that the government of Assam is keen to contribute significantly to the growing partnership and cooperation between the two countries in trade, connectivity and other areas as identified during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangladesh in March this year.

During his meeting with the Governor they discussed development initiatives including trade and commerce between India and Bangladesh. The High Commissioner briefed the Governor about the major projects currently undertaken between the two countries, said a press release from the office of the Governor of Assam.

High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami said that there is a need for greater communication linkages between India and Bangladesh with special emphasis on the Northeast.

High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami visited Assam between Sept 8-10. During the visit he met the Governor and Chief Minister of Assam.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a tweet that during his meeting with the High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami  they discussed ways to improve trade and  connectivity between India and Bangladesh. He said the government of Assam is all willing to contribute to this growing cooperation.
