Maharashtra: Ganeshotsav celebrations begin with usual fervor amid Covid restrictions

Maharashtra is known for its Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav, a festival of elephant god, which is celebrated for 10 days with enthusiasm. For the second consecutive year, amid Covid-19 pandemic, the celebrations began today with the same fervour. People greeted their favourite god in atmosphere charged with devotion and affection.

Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak initiated Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav in Maharashtra. Pune is famous for its traditional Ganpati festival. First pooja of Pune’s all major Ganesh ji like Kasba Ganpati, Kesriwada’s Ganeshji, Tambdi Jogeshwari Ganesh ji, Srimant Dagdu Sheth Halwai Ganpati were performed in with full fervour following all Covid protocol.

Due to restrictions imposed, traditional dhol and devotees were not allowed to participate.  In Mumbai, installation of Sri Siddhi Vinayak in Prabhadevi, was performed by president Adesh Bandekar. Due to  restrictions, local citizens were not happy in Lalbaug area. But the issue was solved amicably by police and devotees and pooja was performed. Now devotees can take darshan online. In Konkan region, Ganesh Festival is being celebrated in large scale. Lakhs of devotees are visiting their home town for Ganesh festival.

In Ratnagiri district, more than 1.5 lakh households and more than 100 Ganesh Mandal are celebrating festival of Ganesha. In Sindhudurg district, more than 70 thousand households and more than 30 Sarvajani Ganesh Mandals have also participated in the festival.
