10 Day Ganesh festival starts in Mumbai & other parts of Maharashtra

Amid Covid 19 pandemic and several restrictions, the 10 Day Ganesh festival has started in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra today. Maharashtra government has appealed the citizens to celebrate the festival with simplicity and patience by avoid crowding and following the guidelines issued by it due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation in the state. Due to this the festival is being celebrated on a low key note for the second consecutive year. Mumbai police has imposed section 144 as a precautionary measure to avoid public gathering.

The most favourite and world famous festival of Maharashtra, Ganesh Utsav has begun today. Although the chanting of Ganpati Bappa Morya, Mangal Murti Morya could be heard since last night as  many  household Ganpati and Ganesh idols of Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandals were brought in the night. The idols are being brought in the morning and pratishthapana will be done during the day. But the festival is being celebrated with many restrictions in place for the second consecutive year due to Covid-19 pandemic. With around 50 thousand active cases Maharashtra is on the second spot in the list of active Corona cases in the country and the fear of third wave is prevailing in the state. Considering the situation Mumbai police has imposed section 144 to avoid crowding and banned Sarvjanik Ganesh Darshan, Mukh Darshan in the pandals of Sarvjanik Ganesh Mandals as well as processions during the festival. According to the appeal made by the state government and the administration Sarvjanik Ganesh Mandals have made the arrangements of online darshan using the online platforms. Lalbaug Cha Raja Ganesh Mandal has installed  a smaller idol of four feet according to the directives of the government and online darshan of the famous Ganpati wiil be open from   11am today. It will be available 24×7 for 10 days during the festival till 7 am on September 19.
