US Open: Novak Djokovic inches closer to Calendar Grand Slam as he reaches semi-finals

In US Open, No. 1 Novak Djokovic inched closer to a Calendar Grand Slam as he reached the semi-finals at the US Open, beating Italian Matteo Berrettini in four sets on last night. He will face no 4 seeded Olympic gold medalist Alexander Zverev in the semifinal clash.

The 34-year-old defeated Berrettini 5-7, 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 in three hours and 26 minutes at the Flushing Meadows. Djokovic has already won the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon this season is now just two matches away from winning his fourth Grand Slam title of the season and needs to win the US Open to become the first player since Rod Lever to complete a Calendar Slam.

Olympic gold medalist Alexander Zverev has also entered in the semifinals after defeating unseeded Lloyd Harris of South African in straight sets. In women group,18-year-old British sensation Emma Raducanu reached the US Open women’s semi-finals after beating Tokyo Olympic champion Swiss Belinda Bencic 6-3, 6-4 in New York last night. World No. 150, will now play 17th seed Greek Maria Sakkari in the semi final. Sakkari beat Karolína Plisková 6-4, 6-4 in the quarter final.

In the other semifinal, 19-year Canadian Leylah Fernandez will meet No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus tomorrow.
