Sensex slides 17 pts to end at 58,279; Nifty falls 16 pts to 17,362

The Sensex and the Nifty today slipped marginally. The BSE Sensex fell 17 points, or 0.03 percent, to finish at 58,279. The NSE Nifty also ended 16 points, or 0.09 percent, down to 17,362.

In the broader market at BSE, the Mid-Cap also fell 0.23 percent and the Small-Cap index ended 0.42 percent down.

In the Sensex pack, shares of 12 companies gained while 18 logged losses.

HDFC was top gainer as it surged 2.6 percent followed by Bharti Airtel which gained two and half a percent.

ITC climbed 1.2 percent and IndusInd Bank surged one percent.

On the other side, Sun Pharma declined 1.8 percent and Tech Mahindra fell 1.7 percent.

Axis Bank fell 1.6 percent while HCL and Infosys, both slipped 1.4 percent.

In sectoral indices, six sectors logged gains while 13 fell. Telecom gained 3.1 percent and Consumer Goods surged 1.3 percent.

On the other hand, Realty plunged 2.2 percent and IT declined 1.2 percent. Utilities and Oil & Gas, both slipped 1.1 percent.

The overall breadth of the BSE trade was negative as shares of 1283 companies gained while 1898 fell.

Shares of 136 companies remained unchanged.
