COVID-19: Bangladesh starts mass vaccination drive for the second dose

Bangladesh launched the mass vaccination drive to provide the second dose of the COVID 19 vaccine on Tuesday. During the campaign between 7-12 September those who received their first dose of the vaccine last month will be provided the second dose of the vaccine at the same centres where they received it earlier. On day 1 of the drive on Tuesday, people in the city corporation area of Bangladesh are receiving the second dose of the vaccine.

Close to 3.5 million people are expected to receive the second dose of the vaccine during this campaign. The first round of the mass vaccination campaign was organised in Bangladesh between August 7-12 during which close to 3.5 million people were vaccinated.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had told the Bangladesh parliament that the government has planned to vaccinate 1 crore people per month. Till August 30, Bangladesh has taken measures to collect over 24 crore doses of the COVID vaccine from various sources.

Bangladesh has so far inoculated 19.61 million people with the first dose of the COVID 19 vaccine. More than 8.96 million people have received both the doses of the vaccine till Sunday, September 6.
