Role of Media important in enhancing bilateral ties: Bangladesh Information Minister

Information and Broadcasting Minister of Bangladesh Dr. Hasan Mahmud has said that the role of journalists and media is very important in enhancing the bilateral relationship between India and Bangladesh.

Inaugurating the ‘Bangabandhu Media Centre’ as Chief Guest at the Press Club of India (PCI) in New Delhi on Monday, Dr. Hasan Mahmud expressed special thanks and gratitude to India for its contribution in the liberation of Bangladesh.

Highlighting the role of Bangladesh’s father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he said that Bangabandhu guided Bangladesh to the path of liberation.

Dr. Mahmud also unveiled a portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the PCI.

High Commissioner of Bangaldesh to India Muhammad Imran was present on the occasion as the Special guest. President of the Press Club of Bangladesh Farida Yasmin and President of the PCI Umakant Lakhera were also present on the occasion.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Minister (Press) in the Bangladesh High Commission in India Shaban Mahmood and the Secretary General of the PCI Vinay Kumar.

The ‘Bangabandhu Media Centre’ is being set up at PCI to jointly commemorate the birth centenary year of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of the liberation of Bangladesh.

The media centre will be equipped with modern facilities. It will have an exhibition hall and library on the first floor of the club.

Earlier in July, Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) had signed an MoU with Delhi University to establish the ‘Bangabandhu Chair’ to promote research and study related to Bangladesh.

A few other institutions in India are also taking similar initiatives to commemorate the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of the liberation of Bangladesh.
