Pro-people programmes launched by NCL in Singrauli District

As part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav Celebrations, Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), under the Ministry of Coal, has launched a series of CSR (Corporate social responsibility) schemes to benefit the villagers of Singrauli. These projects aim at improving village infrastructure, education, skill development, women’s empowerment, job creation, sanitation, and clean drinking water for the villagers, totaling Rs. 2.25 crore.

Riti Pathak, Member of Parliament, inaugurated the programme and praised NCL’s efforts in Singrauli District in terms of infrastructure development, livelihood generation, and overall community development. As part of NCL’s Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, a new road in Semuar Panchayat was launched at a cost of 1.6 crores, benefiting about ten thousand people residing in Pali, Semur, and other surrounding areas.

Empowering local women and girls

To further empower local women and young girls of the region and make them self-reliant, sewing machines and skill certificates were distributed to 27 women and girls, trained in the centres under the ongoing skill development programme of NCL.

Ensuring modern education amenities:

As part of ensuring modern education amenities in these remote villages, 8 sets of Smart TV and computers were distributed to nearby Government schools. Four schools received advanced laboratory equipment, helping more than 500 students to get practical knowledge in the field of Science. Besides this, four water coolers with RO machines were handed over to the authorities to ensure that safe drinking water is provided to more than 1,000 school students.

Floor mats, play school slides, and utensils were also distributed to the children of 43 Anganvadis spread over ten panchayats in Singrauli district.

Giving further fillip to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan:

Giving a boost to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a garbage collection vehicle was also flagged off and handed over to a representative of the Naudhiya Panchayat. This vehicle will ensure door to door collection of waste to pave the way for a hygienic living environment to more than 5,000 residents.

Some of the other highlights of the function includes the inauguration of boundary wall of a school built under NCL-CSR located in village Bhowdar in Singrauli District and a visit to the Khadi and Handloom Center set up by NCL, where around 30 women are receiving training

About NCL:

NCL is a Singrauli-based Miniratna Company under the Ministry of Coal and operates with 10 highly mechanized opencast coal mines and accounts for 15% of coal production in the country. During the previous fiscal year, It has contributed over 115 Million Tonnes of coal to the nation.

Other CSR activities by NCL:

Last month in August, Northern Coalfields Limited gave training to 500 youth, living in and around the operational areas of NCL, in Plastic Engineering trade to ensure their job readiness in the competitive market. Notably, the organization has spent around Rs 130 crores during the financial year 2020-21, and has already set a target to spend Rs 132.75 crores in the year 2021-22 on CSR activities.
