The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) launched the ‘Shri Ramayana Yatra’ Trains under the Dekho Apna Desh initiative of the Government to promote religious tourism in the country.
The Shri Ramayana Yatra theme-based pilgrimage tour by Dekho Apna Desh deluxe AC tourist train on the Ramayana circuit will cover the prominent sacred places associated with the life of Lord Rama across the country.
About the Yatra
The 16 nights/17 days yatra would begin its journey on November 7 this year from Safdarjung, Delhi, and visit various places such as Ayodhya, Nandigram, Shringaverpur, Chitrakoot, Nasik, Hampi, Janakpur, Prayagraj, Sitamdhi, Varanasi, and Rameshwaram.
The railways will also provide accommodation, vegetarian food in rail restaurants and on the train while also ensuring the tourist’s security.
Destination & Route
In its 17 day-long journey, the tourists will get to visit a number of temples and sites of religious importance. These include the Ram Janam Bhoomi Temple, Hanuman Garhi, Saryu Ghat in Ayodhya; Bharat-Hanuman Temple, and Bharat Kund in Nandigram; Ram-Janki Mandir in Janakpur; Janaki Mandir and Punaura Dham at Sitamarhi; Tulsi Manas temple, Sankat Mochan temple and Vishwanath temple in Varanasi among several others on the list.
Day 2 of the journey will make a stoppage at Ayodhya, while site seeing will end with a visit of Dhanushkodi in Rameshwaram on Day 15. From then on, the yatra will begin its journey back to Delhi.
After Ayodhya, the next destination will be the birthplace of Sita, Sitamarhi in Bihar, and Ram-Janki Temple in Janakpur. Nepal will also be covered via road. Shri Ramayana Yatra train will also make stoppages for Bharadwaj Ashram, Ganga-Yamuna Sangam, Hanuman temple in Prayag, Shiva temple, and Dhanushkodi in Rameshwaram.
Dekho Apna Desh
Launched in 2020, the Ministry of Tourism with the ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ initiative aims to create awareness among the citizens about the rich heritage and culture of the country while also encouraging the citizens to travel within the country.
The initiative is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraging every citizen to visit at least 15 destinations by the year 2022. Under the initiative, the Ministry organizes a series of webinars under the overall theme of Dekho Apna Desh, showcasing the diverse culture, heritage, destinations, and tourism products of the country.
Further, to create mass awareness, the Ministry has also launched an online Dekho Apna Desh pledge and Quiz on the MyGov.in platform. As of January 2021, the Ministry has organized 68 webinars with a viewership of almost 3.00 lakh.
Dekho Apna Desh is an ongoing tourism campaign intended to boost domestic travel in India. It brings into the limelight lesser-known destination treasures across the country. The Ministry aims to revive the tourism sector and promote domestic tourism.
Other details about the travel
IRCTC has issued a set of guidelines and rules to be followed by the tourists and passengers during their travel and stay on the Ramayana Yatra. COVID Vaccination (at least one dose) has been made mandatory for guests of age group 18 or above to be eligible for the trip. They are also required to install and use Aarogya Setu App, wear a face mask and hand gloves and practice frequent hand washing along with other covid appropriate behavior.
The booking for the journey can be done through the IRCTC website. All the passengers will have to bring certificates of both doses of Covid vaccination.
