The Sensex and the Nifty on Thursday hit fresh record highs. Both stocks climbed even as the cues from the global equity markets were mixed. The Sensex closed above 57,800 while the Nifty ended above 17,200 level.
The BSE Sensex gained 514 points, or 0.9 per cent, to finish at 57,853. The NSE Nifty also surged 158 points, or 0.92 per cent, to settle at 17,234.
In the forex market, the rupee appreciated marginally by two paise against the US dollar to close at 73 rupees and seven paise against the US dollar.
Gold prices gained 90 rupees at Multi-Commodity Exchange for October contracts. The precious metal was trading at 47,155 rupees per 10 grams. On the other hand, silver prices remained almost flat at 63,575 rupees per kilogram for September Contracts when reports last came in.
Oil prices rose supported by a sharp decline in U.S. crude stocks. In intra-day trade, Brent crude was trading around 72 dollars per barrel.
