Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam has appealed to the Centre to provide Urea and DPA fertilisers and urged the import of fertilisers through ports in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
In a letter to Union Minister for Agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar, today, he said that 4.90 lakh acres of land need fertilisers as it was time for kuruvai cultivation. His letter also stated that the State had received 2.56 lakh metric tonnes of Urea whereas 3.8 lakh metric was allocated.
The Minister said that 25.40 lakh acres of agricultural land is in need of the fertiliser.
