Amid sharp rise in corona cases in Kerala, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced that night curfew will be imposed in the state from 10 pm to 6 am from tomorrow. The decision comes two days after the Centre suggested that the state government should explore the possibility of enforcing night curfew in areas of high positivity. The state yesterday reported 31,265 fresh cases of coronavirus while 153 patients succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours.
This is the fourth consecutive day that the daily COVID-19 cases crossed the 30,000 mark in the state. The state government also issued additional COVID guidelines, saying special intensified stringent lockdowns will be enforced in the urban wards and panchayats with critical spread where WIPR (weekly infection population ratio) is above seven.
Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla while reviewing the COVID-19 situation in Kerala on Thursday observed that more efforts would be required to arrest the increase in infections.
Earlier this month, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya visited the state and announced a special package of 267.35 crore rupees for Kerala to strengthen its health infrastructure.
