Kerala continues to report surge in Covid 19 cases as it confirmed 29,836 new positive cases today. The test positivity rate in Kerala is 19.67 percent at present. 75 deaths were also confirmed due to Covid today, taking the death toll to 20,541. Bringing respite, 22,088 recoveries were also reported. At present, the total number of active cases is 2,12,566.
The State Health Minister Veena George said that the State had revised the Covid testing system. The decision comes after more than 71 percent of the population above 18 years of age received their first dose. Revised guidelines have been issued based on the vaccination situation in various districts. In the coming days, more people will be tested to know the exact extent of the spread of the disease. In districts where more than 80 percent of people have received the first dose of the vaccine, RTPCR will be conducted only for those with symptoms.
Meanwhile, a night curfew will be imposed in the state from tomorrow onwards. The curfew is from 10 pm to 6 am. Emergency hospital travels, freight vehicles, those in the essential services, and travel following the death of a close relative will be permitted. It has also decided to impose lockdowns in areas where the WIPR is above seven.
Today, with the full lockdown in place, only essential services were allowed to function. Restrictions similar to the triple lockdown were in place today. The decision is to continue with the complete lockdown on Sundays.
