President Ram Nath Kovind said that the world has recognised the potential of traditional Indian medical practices in the times of Covid pandemic. He said that the time has come to give recognition to the AYUSH medical practices at the global level and the establishment of AYUSH University in Uttar Pradesh will help immensely in this regard.
On his third day visit to Uttar Pradesh, President laid the foundation stone of the Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University, state’s first AYUSH University in Gorakhpur today. He said that the central government has established a dedicated AYUSH Ministry in 2014 to promote the traditional Indian medical practices. He said that it is heartening to know that Uttar Pradesh has also established a dedicated AYUSH department in 2017 and now AYUSH University will come up in the state.
During his visit to Gorakhpur, the President also inaugurated Mahayogi Gorakhnath University. In his address, the President said that the National Education Policy 2020 envisages character building through education. He said that the aim of NEP-2020 is to incorporate the values of morality, rationality, compassion and sensitivity in the students. He said that NEP-2020 will enable students to get employment. The President also said that one of the objectives of the National Education Policy is to upgrade the curriculum of our educational institutions.
Earlier, Governor Anandiben Patel thanked the central government for introducing schemes like Swachcha Bharat Abhiyan, Pradhanmantri Ujjwala Yojana for free distribution of LPG gas cylinders, Ayushman Bharat Yojana and Mission Indradhanush. The Governor said the objective of all these schemes is to enhance the quality of life of the citizens.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that it is a historical day for Gorakhpur as the city got two Universities in a single day. He said that AYUSH University to come up in Gorakhpur would act as a centre for AYUSH education and treatment through the traditional Indian medical practices.
AIR correspondent reports that the state government has fixed 2023 as the deadline to complete the construction of the AYUSH University. Spread over 52 acres, the University will house Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathy and Yoga medicare on its campus. The budget of over Rs. 299 crore has been earmarked for its construction. The University will be instrumental in research in the fields of AYUSH. Ninety-four colleges of AYUSH discipline of the state will be affiliated to this University. With the establishment of AYUSH University, Gorakhpur will get a major boost in the field of healthcare as the city already has a Medical College and a soon to be inaugurated AIIMS.
