Bangladesh: Closure of educational institutions extended till 11 Sept, COVID positivity declines below 14 percent

The government of Bangladesh has further extended the ongoing closure of educational institutions in the country till 11 September. Earlier the government had announced closure till 31 August. Schools and colleges in Bangladesh have remained closed due to the COVID 19 pandemic since March 17 last year.

Education Minister Dipu Moni has indicated that the universities in the country will start reopening in phases from mid October. They will be allowed to resume all the activities after vaccination of the students, said the Minister after a review meeting with the educational authorities of the universities on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the COVID situation in Bangladesh showed further improvement with the sample positivity rate declining to 13.77 percent on Thursday. The country recorded 102 COVID deaths on Thursday taking the death toll to 25729. It is the lowest daily death toll since June 26 when 77 deaths were recorded. Bangladesh also reported 4698 new cases and 8314 recoveries bringing down the number of active cases to 59,014.
