The last rites of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh were performed today at Rajghat in Narora of Bulandshahr district with full state honours.
Kalyan Singh’s son Rajveer Singh lit the pyre. Several Union Ministers including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and other leaders were present during the last rites ceremony.
Home minister Amit Shah said on the occasion that Babuji’s passing away is a big loss for BJP and the void he has left will be difficult to fill.
Yesterday many national leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid their last respects to former UP CM and Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh who breathed his last on Saturday night in a Lucknow hospital after long illness.
UP government has declared holiday in the state as a mark of respect for the departed leader. The State Government has announced that the road leading to Ram Janmbhoomi in Ayodhya will be named after Kalyan Singh.
Besides Ayodhya, one road each in Lucknow, Prayagraj, Bulandshahr and Aligarh will be also named after him.
Kalyan Singh was Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh twice and he had also served as governor of Rajasthan and Himachal pradesh. He was elected to Parliament twice from Bulandshahar and Etah constituencies.
