In an effort to restore the sporting culture in the state, the Uttar Pradesh government will felicitate the Tokyo Olympics medal winners and contingent members of Uttar Pradesh at Lucknow this afternoon.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will felicitate them with cash prizes in an event at the Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee- Ekana Stadium.
The government will give cash prizes of rupees 2 crore to the gold medal winners, rupees 1.50 crore to the silver medallists and rupees 1 crore to the bronze medallists. Those who stood at forth place and did better show will also be honoured with rupees 50 lakh .The Coaches will also honoured.
A total of more than 50 athlets will be felicitated during the program. The players to be felicitated are Neeraj Chopra, Mirabai Chanu, Ravi Dahiya, Bajrang Punia, Lovlina Borgohain, PV Sindhu and Indian men’s hockey team.
The members of the Indian hockey men’s team that won the bronze medal in Tokyo will get rupees one crore each. The Indian women’s hockey team members will get rupees 50 lakh each for the best-ever performance in the Olympics.
Ten players of Uttar Pradesh including Lalit Kumar Upadhyay and Vandana Kataria who were part of men’s and women’s hockey teams respectively in Olympics will also be honoured.
