COVID Cooperation: India hands over 31 ambulances, 9th Oxygen express leaves for Bangladesh

Continuing with a series of steps towards cooperation with neighbouring countries in fighting COVID 19 pandemic, India handed over 31 life support ambulances to Bangladesh in Dhaka on Tuesday.

High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami formally handed over these ambulances equipped with advanced life support systems  to Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr A K Abdul Momen at a programme held in Dhaka.

India also handed over medical equipment and supplies like Pulse Oxymeter devices, Liquid Medical Oxygen cylinders, nasal cannulas, Oxygen nasal cannulas, oxygen concentrators among others.

These ambulances are part of 109 life support ambulances gifted to Bangladesh during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March this year. The remaining ambulances will also be handed over soon to Bangladesh.

These supplies are intended to further support the Government of Bangladesh’s extensive efforts to combat the COVID pandemic and beyond. Even after the pandemic, the ambulances are intended to support Bangladesh’s ongoing and strong efforts to upgrade public health services. These ambulances reflect India’s unswerving and long-term commitment to its unique and special friendship with the Bangladeshi people, said the press release of the High Commission of India.

In another step towards cooperation with neighbours in fighting the COVID pandemic, the South Eastern Railways despatched the 9th consignment of the Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) from Rourkela to Benapole in Bangladesh. The Oxygen express is carrying 202 tonnes of LMO for supply to various hospitals and health care facilities in Bangladesh. Till now more than 1600 tonnes of LMT has been supplied from India to Bangladesh through the rail route and another 180 tonnes through the land route via Benapole during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays under special arrangement.
