In Chhattisgarh, the 75th Independence Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and gaiety. The villages in the remote areas of Dantewada district in Bastar division, celebrated the Independence day with great enthusiasm where the Maoists earlier used to give a call for boycott of any celebrations.
In many villages of Chhattisgarh’s Maoist-affected Dantewada district, the scenario is now changed on Independence Day.
In these areas, about 15 villages have now become Maoist free after the commencement of the Lone Varratu campaign. Many Naxalites have left Maoist ideology and joined the mainstream during the last few months under the Lone Varratu campaign.
During the Independence Day yesterday in these villages, the enthusiasm of the villagers, especially children, was seen clearly. The villagers together with the police personnel hoisted the tricolor. Tree plantation was also done by villagers and jawans. On this occasion, the police officers also distributed books and sports material to the school children.
