Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla planted a fruit tree in Bharat-ASEAN Maitri Park, Tughlak Road, New Delhi on Saturday.
Union Minister Shri Arjun Munda and Gen. V.K. Singh, Judges of the Supreme Court, Members of Parliament, Secretary-General, Lok Sabha and other eminent personalities also planted trees on this occasion.
Emphasizing India’s contributions to obviate the adverse impacts of climate change, Shri Birla said that India is leading the world to fight against climate change and to provide a sustainable climate to the humanity. Indians are connected to the nature since time immemorial and their reverence towards the nature is the foundation of our commitment to protection of the environment.
On this occasion, Shri Birla said that as India is celebrating 75th year of her Independence, this should be the occasion to make environment protection a people’s movement. Shri Birla appealed the people to begin a mass campaign for plantation of fruit trees.
