Almost a year since the first Kisan Rail that ran from Maharashtra’s Devlali to Danapur, the cost-effective and convenient Kisan Rail has completed its 500 trips. Central Railway’s General Manager, Mr. Anil Kumar Lahoti has informed that 1.69 lakh tonnes of fruits and vegetables have been transported via 500 trips of Kisan Rail till August 12, 2021.
First-ever Kisan Rail that started from Devlali to Danapur, was extended up to Muzaffarpur on popular demand.
The Pomegranate of Maharashtra reached distant markets through Sangola-Manmad link Kisan Rail which was attached to the Develali-Muzaffarpur Kisan Rail. Oranges from Nagpur reached the markets of Delhi, quick and fresh. Observing good response, the Government has also extended a subsidy of 50% to the farmers as a part of Government’s vision of Operation Green – TOP to TOTAL under Atmanirbhar Bharat abhiyan.
This resulted in railways becoming the first choice of the farmers for their transportation. The first Kisan Rail was run first on 7.8.2020 and 100th trip of Kisan Rail was on 28.12.2020 which was flagged off by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modiji through web link. The 500th trip of Kisan Rail left Sangola to Muzaffarpur on 12.8.2021.
At present Central Railway runs five Kisan Rails viz. Devlali-Muzaffarpur, Sangola-Adarsh Nagar Delhi, Sangola-Shalimar, Raver-Adarsh Nagar Delhi and Savda-Adarsh Nagar Delhi.
