Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu received delegations of opposition parties and the government today and listened to their versions of events that took place in the House yesterday. Before his meetings with the two delegations, Mr Naidu held an hour long meeting with the senior officials of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat on the proceedings and turn of events in the House over the last few days, including the issue of deployment of marshals.
The officials detailed the incidents involving some members of the House and marshals. They were asked by the Chairman to report back to him on the manner and scale of deployment. The Opposition delegation led by the Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge broadly raised the issues of the manner of passing of the General Insurance Bill, the manner and scale of deployment of marshals and marshals preventing some members from discharging their functions. The Chairman assured the opposition delegation that he will look into the alleged incidents.
