Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty50 ended on the green side of the market on Tuesday. Buying interest was seen in IT and financial stocks. Selling pressure was witnessed in metal shares. Bharti Airtel was the top gainer among blue-chip stocks, surged 3.84 per cent. Axis Bank, HDFC, Kotak Mahindra, and M&M were among the other top Sensex gainers. While Tata Steel, Power Grid Corp, NTPC and ITC were laggards.
Earlier in Asian Indices, South Korea’s Kospi fell by 0.53 per cent. Japan’s Nikkei 225 index increased by 0.24 per cent and China’s Shanghai Composite surged by 1.01 per cent.
The BSE Sensex and Nifty50 increased by 0.28 and 0.13 per cent respectively. The Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange closed at 54,550 level while Nifty50 of the National Stock Exchange settled at the 16,280 mark. The Sensex gained 151 points to trade at 54,554 and the Nifty50 rose by 21 points to trade at 16,280.
In Nifty50 index shares, Bharti Airtel was the biggest gainer, increased by 3.83 per cent. Tech Mahindra, HDFC, Kotak Mahindra, M&M and HCL Tech were among the other gainers.
On the other hand, Shree Cements was the worst performer in the pack, down by 4.09 per cent. JSW Steel, Tata Steel, Power Grid Corp, IOC, NTPC and ITC were the other worst performers in the pack.
Small-cap and Mid-cap Indices
The Nifty Midcap-100 index declined 1.09 per cent and the Nifty Smallcap-100 index fell 2.30 per cent. In Nifty Midcap 100, Future Retail gained 6.45 per cent, Escorts rose 6.27 per cent, Ipca Labs, Gujarat State Petronet and Cummins also surged, while Indiabulls Hsg, Dhani Services and NALCO declined. In Nifty Smallcap-100, Navin Fluorine gained 4.11 per cent. On the other hand, Welspun India fell 7.89 per cent, IRB Infra, Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers and Rain Industries declined.
In NSE sectoral indices, 4 out of 17 sectors surged. Nifty IT was the top performer as it gained 0.87 per cent, Nifty Service Sector rose 0.52 per cent, followed by Nifty Financial Service increased by 0.30 per cent. On the other hand, Nifty Metal was the worst performer, down by 2.77 per cent, followed by Nifty PSU Bank declined by 2.61 per cent.
