Both the houses of Parliament today witnessed disruption over Pegasus, farm laws and other issues. The Rajya Sabha has been adjourned till 2 P.M. while the Lok Sabha witnessed adjournment till 12 noon following ruckus by the Opposition parties. In the Rajya Sabha, when the House reassembled after first adjournment at 12 noon, members from Congress, TMC, Left, DMK and others again trooped to the well of the house raising slogans. Amid uproar, Deputy Chairman Harivansh tried to run the Question Hour, but in vain. Later, he adjourned the house till 2 P.M.
Earlier, when the house met for the day, Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu rejected the adjournment notices given by the Opposition parties over Pegasus and other issues. This prompted the Opposition members including Congress and TMC to come into the well raising slogans. The members from DMK, Left, RJD and others were on their feet. Mr. Naidu cautioned the members that if the house is disrupted today also, when the farmers issue is scheduled for discussion, a wrong message will go to the people. He said today is the 16th day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament and the Upper House has functioned at the rate of just one hour per day. He added that if the house is not allowed to function a message will go out that it has no concern for the plight of farmers.
In the Lok Sabha, when the house met after first adjournment at 12 noon, it took up the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Seventh Amendment) Bill, 2021 for consideration and passing. Earlier in the morning, members from Congress, TMC, DMK, Left, Akali Dal and others trooped into the well raising slogans. Amid ruckus, Speaker Om Birla tried to run the Question Hour. He urged the agitating members to allow the house to function. Mr. Birla asked the protesting members to raise people’s issues and not to disrupt House proceedings. As the pandemonium continued, the Speaker adjourned the House till 12 noon.
