The Rajya Sabha today passed the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2021 amid din with voice vote. The Bill seeks to amend the constitutional list of Scheduled Tribes as recommended by Arunachal Pradesh.
It removes the Abor tribe from the list of identified STs in that state. Speaking on the bill, Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda said it l will provide justice to tribals.
The Bill was passed after a brief discussion amid continuous protest by the opposition parties. Participating in the discussion, Banda Prakash of TRS supported the Bill. M. Thambidurai of AIADMK said several communities in Tamil Nadu are demanding to include them in the ST list and Centre should look into it.
Manoj Jha of RJD, while referring to farm laws, said the government should bring a bill to repeal them. Aam Aadmi Party MP Sushil Gupta raised the issue of sexual assault and killing of a Dalit girl in Delhi. Some other members also spoke on the bill.
