Victory Flame of Swarnim Vijay Varsh received in Port Blair by Andaman & Nicobar Command

Swarnim Vijay Varsh is being celebrated across the nation on the occasion of 50th anniversary of Indo-Pak war in 1971. In the series of events Victory Flame of Swarnim Vijay Varsh is being taken across the length and breadth of the country. The flame was lit up by PM Narendra Modi on 16th Dec. last year at National War Memorial in Delhi.

The Victory Flame of Swarnim Vijay Varsh was received yesterday by Lt. Governor Admiral D K Joshi in a program organized at Naval Jetty in Port  Blair by Andaman and Nicobar Command.

After receiving the flame Lt. Governor Admiral D K Joshi said the Victory Flame reached us after travelling 4500 kms over land and sea. It reminds us the glorious victory and sacrifice of our war heros during 1971 war. He believed that all islanders will relate to the glory that the flame embodies and cherish the memories of nation’s history. It also reminds the world that although we are a peace loving nation, we will defend our national interest robustly and will irreparable repercussion for the adversity.

Today’s generation feels special pride in being citizens of the nation which not only stand against atrocities but also helps our friendly nations at the times of need. Our armed forces exhibited their indomitable spirit during 1971 war by not only ensured safeguarding our national boundary but also liberated a neighbour from the clutches of atrocities by putting down the enemy.

Mentioning about the tough time of Corona Pandemic he stated as the flame passes across the islands it will also spread reassurance of coming out victorious to tough times and strengthen our resolve to fight all challenges. He extended gratitude towards all war veterans for their contribution in giving a secure environment to nurture and grow.

Prior to this Commander-In-Chief of Andaman Nicobar Command Lt. General Ajai Singh welcomed the LG during the event. Few war veterans of 1971 war also attended the event.

The Victory Flame was taken to Flag Point in Port Blair for public viewing. The flame was handed over to Andaman Nicobar Command on 31st July in Chennai and it has reached Port Blair today by INS Sumedha. The Victory Flame will remain in the islands till 28th August. In the meantime, it will be taken at several islands like Landfall, Diglipur, Car Nicobar, Campbell Bay to Indra Point, the Southernmost tip of India. After that it will be handed over to Eastern Command.

A series of events will be organized in Andaman and Nicobar to honor the Victory Flame. It is scheduled to be taken to the adjacent Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Island today. The flame will also be taken to Cellular Jail on the same day for soil collection. At Cellular Jail live band performance with light and sound show will also be held.
