Ravi Kumar, Deepak Punia enter wrestling semifinals at Tokyo Olympics

In Tokyo Olympic on the 12th day today, Indian players began their campaign with wins in their respective games.

In Wrestling, Ravi Kumar and Deepak Punia have entered the semi-finals. Ravi Kumar won in the Quarter-final match in the 57 kg category against Georgi Vangelov Valentinov of Bulgaria 14-4 to enter the last four. Ravi Kumar will take on Nurislam Sanayev of Kazakhistan in the semi-finals later today. Deepak defeated Jushen Lyn of China 6-3 in the quarter-finals and made a place for himself in the last four. He will take on TAYLOR III David Morris of USA later today in the semi-finals.

 

However, Anshu Singh lost to Iryna Kurachkina of Belarus in Women’s freestyle 57 kilogram.   India’s Pugilist Lovlina Borgohain is now taking a fight against World Champion Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey in the Women’s welterweight 69 kilogram semi-final event.

Golfers Diksha Dagar and Aditi Ashok are in action in the first round of Women’s individual finals. 

Promising athlete Neeraj Chopra sealed an automatic qualification for the Men’s Javeline throw finals by throwing 86.65 metres in his first attempt. However, fellow Javelin thrower Shivpal Singh failed to cross the qualification hurdle with his best throw of 76.40 metres. Men’s Javelin Throw Final will take place on 7th August at 4:30 P.M. Indian Time.

Indian Women’s hockey Team will take on Argentina at 3:30

PM in a crucial semi-final match today. The winner of the match will set up the Summit clash with the Netherlands for the gold medal.
