Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said procurement at Minimum Support Price (MSP) by central and State agencies and above MSP by private players, is beneficial to the farmers. Replying to a question in Lok Sabha, the Minister said over three years the number of farmers benefited from Government procurement at MSP rose from One crore 71 lakh 50 thousand in 2018-19 to Two crore 10 lakh Seven thousand in 2020-21.
Mr. Tomar said, every year the Government announces MSP for 22 major agricultural commodities. He also informed that the Government also extends remunerative prices to farmers through various interventions. He also said farmers are free to sell their produce anywhere other than the government agencies.
