Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur on Saturday visited Lahul-Spiti district to take stock of the situation arisen due to recent flash flood and landslide incidents in the district. He directed the district officials to assess the damage caused by the flash floods and assured all possible help from the State Government.
The Chief Minister took stock of the condition of the flood-damaged bridges in the district and directed BRO to expedite the repair work. Mr Thakur said, alternative arrangements should be made in place of the bridges damaged by the floods so that the cash crops of the local people can reach the Mandis on Time.
The Chief Minister also inquired about the well-being of the people who were rescued today. He said, the State Government had arranged a helicopter to rescue them, but could not take off due to bad weather. He said, if the weather remains clear, the rest of the tourists will be evacuated tomorrow.
It may be recalled that many roads and bridges in the district were damaged due to flash floods last Wednesday. Flash flood also claimed seven lives while three people are still missing in the district.
